Tradition, nature conservation, management, trust, tireless work of generations and knowledge were the godfathers of the establishment of Faronika d.o.o. In a modern fish farm, the clear Tolminka flows, a green-blue mountain river that originates in the heart of the Triglav National Park.

DEVELOPMENT OF FISH FARMING

Beginnings in the 60s – From the early sixties on, fry from rivers in our sections have been used for artificial breeding, especially the fry of the marble trout. Breeding took place in Ilirska Bistrica, later in Solkan and partially in Kobarid.

1989 – In 1989, we started artificially breeding trout in our own hatchery in Modrej at the Vodivček stream.

1995 – Since 1995, we have been breeding fish at the fish farm Tolminka in Tolmin. In 1996, we succeeded in stripping the eggs of the pure marble trout from our own broodstock of pure marble trout. From the very start, we have been breeding the marble trout. In 1994, we switched to breeding only the marble trout. In 1996, we also tried breeding grayling, and succeeded. Since then, we have been regularly raising 1-year-old grayling fingerlings. After 2000, we started raising 2- and 3-year-old fingerlings as well.

2015 – In order to breed adult marble trout and grayling, another fish farm – Tolminka 2 – was built on the Tolminka in 2015.
